Its That Time Of Year

Its that time of year for 2 things. One is my favorite, baseball season, the other I hate, flu season. Don't these things always go hand in hand.

The lovely flu has infiltrated our community. So many kids have missed so much school with the flu and a upper respiratory infection. The upper resp. thing has made it into our house. Both boys have been dealing with it for the past 2 weeks. Neither one of them feels any better. Hopefully they will get better by the end of this week. However, at least baseball is around the corner so that makes it all better.

My husband is in for a new adventure. He is going to be coaching little league on the difficult side of town. He opted to do this due to a shortage of coaching in that league. We asked our oldest son if he was okay playing in this league and he said he was up to it. We have discovered that this league has to deal with certain issues that we have not faced in the past. Lack of parental support, drugs, bad attitudes. I know my husband is up for this challange. Coaching is his calling and I know this will be a great ministry for him. He knows that God has called him to reach these kids and he knows this is the direction he needs to go. Please pray for him as he prepares for this and that he can reach these kids.

I know the flu will soon pass and be history for this year and the new boys of summer will be taking to brand new fields. There is nothing like the smell of freshly cut outfield grass, the wetting down of the infield, the marking off the base lines to make the world feel right again for a short while. It is as close to heaven on earth for me watching these 11-12yr old boys playing this wonderful game. May God bless this season of baseball and bless the young men that will be playing it. Batter up.
