14 And Counting

Well, I finally have the time to get back to my blogging. Today being the day that it is, there was only one subject I could possibly discuss. Today is mine and Shawn's 14th wedding anniversiry. It is hard to believe that I have been married longer than I attended public school. It hasn't always been the prettiest thing in the world but it works for us.

When I reflect back on our time together, there have been so many ups and downs but somehow we have managed to pull through it all. I know when we got married that were alot of doubters out there. I guarantee you that many people never thought that we would make it this far. People always say, "Y'all are so different" or my favorite is "Your husband is not what I pictured your him to look like." Whatever that means.

There are many reasons that I feel that we have made it work. We are both products of the 1980's divorce scene. Both sets of our parents divorced in the 80's for different reasons but the end result was the same, we were kids of divorce. There are people out there that will tell you that divorce does not affect kids but we will both tell you that it does. I makes you carry around some heavy baggage. We were both determined that we would not do that to ourselves or our children.

Another reason we hold it together is the fact that we are really each others best friend. There are times we drive each other crazy but when it comes down to it, we would just rather spend our time together. We do have friends but usually we chose to be with each other. We really enjoy our time as a family with our two great boys.

The last reason I feel we have succeed is that we have put God in charge of our marriage. Now, don't miss understand me, there have been times that we tried to do things our way and not His and that is when we have suffered our most heartache. I like to credit Bro. James McLeod for giving us great marriage counseling prior to our marriage as a base for our godly marriage and Pastor Mike Martindale as being a great teacher in helping our marriage continue to grow with Christ.

So here is to 14 great years and two sons later that we are still going strong. I only hope we continue to grow and change as we need and that our marriage can be an example to others of what a godly marriage can be, teamwork that involves each other in conjunction with God. All the players must work together to keep it going. Happy Anniversary Shawn. Love Ya!
