Dirt Roads

As a child growing up in the country I spent many days outside playing. Sometimes taking walks on the dirt back roads. Those of you who grew up as I did will recall the feeling of walking on those dusty roads. Sometimes the roads were very rocky and your steps would be uneven and other times the road would be smoother and you would have a rhythmic sound going and you would stay in step. I think our walk with Christ can be the same, sometimes a little jagged and rough and other times you are right in step.

We know we must continually tune in to the voice of the Spirit and follow His lead but how difficult it can be. The Spirit moves us to places where we might not feel comfortable, to step back when we want to go forward and vice versa. Sometimes that rhythm is too slow or too fast. By following the Spirit we have to resist the urge to live life our way and relinquish control.

There are certain situations that it can be so hard to follow the Spirit. It can be so difficult not to follow the popular trend of society and do things that it says is okay to do. When you feel you have been wronged or unappreciated to let go of resentment. When the enemy is perched on your shoulder and is chatting in your ear and tries to convince you it is no big deal if you do it this time. You can always make it up later. This causes such a battle between the flesh and Spirit.

We have to come to a point where we need to ask ourselves, "Who am I being led by?" My self, with it emotions, worries, pride, fears, and selfishness? Am I being led by the enemy or am I being lead by the Holy Spirit?

Every time we move with the Spirit we are saying yes to God. We become no longer bound by the wants of our flesh or the dark one whom is perched on our shoulder and promises us such grand things only to crush us. We can choose to be moved by the Spirit.

"But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law...Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Galatians 5:18,25

14 And Counting

Well, I finally have the time to get back to my blogging. Today being the day that it is, there was only one subject I could possibly discuss. Today is mine and Shawn's 14th wedding anniversiry. It is hard to believe that I have been married longer than I attended public school. It hasn't always been the prettiest thing in the world but it works for us.

When I reflect back on our time together, there have been so many ups and downs but somehow we have managed to pull through it all. I know when we got married that were alot of doubters out there. I guarantee you that many people never thought that we would make it this far. People always say, "Y'all are so different" or my favorite is "Your husband is not what I pictured your him to look like." Whatever that means.

There are many reasons that I feel that we have made it work. We are both products of the 1980's divorce scene. Both sets of our parents divorced in the 80's for different reasons but the end result was the same, we were kids of divorce. There are people out there that will tell you that divorce does not affect kids but we will both tell you that it does. I makes you carry around some heavy baggage. We were both determined that we would not do that to ourselves or our children.

Another reason we hold it together is the fact that we are really each others best friend. There are times we drive each other crazy but when it comes down to it, we would just rather spend our time together. We do have friends but usually we chose to be with each other. We really enjoy our time as a family with our two great boys.

The last reason I feel we have succeed is that we have put God in charge of our marriage. Now, don't miss understand me, there have been times that we tried to do things our way and not His and that is when we have suffered our most heartache. I like to credit Bro. James McLeod for giving us great marriage counseling prior to our marriage as a base for our godly marriage and Pastor Mike Martindale as being a great teacher in helping our marriage continue to grow with Christ.

So here is to 14 great years and two sons later that we are still going strong. I only hope we continue to grow and change as we need and that our marriage can be an example to others of what a godly marriage can be, teamwork that involves each other in conjunction with God. All the players must work together to keep it going. Happy Anniversary Shawn. Love Ya!

"The worse the crisis, the more people will tend to think as individuals rather than as members of a team."--Mike Krzyzewski

I Believe

I have been working some crazy hours lately and I've been walking around in a fog for the past two weeks. There have been many topics I have wanted to blog about but just have not had the time to do it well.

In step my father-in-law. I know most people do not enjoy getting forwards but he does send me some worthwhile info. I really enjoyed this one and thought you might to.

I BELIEVE

I believe- That just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other.
And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.
I believe- That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.
I believe- That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while
and you must forgive them for that.
I believe- That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for
true love.
I believe- That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.
I believe- That it's taking me a long time to become the person want to be.
I believe- That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time
you see them.
I believe- That you can keep going long after you think you can't.
I believe- That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.
I believe- That either you control your attitude or it controls you.
I believe- That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done,
regardless of the consequences. (ie Jesus)
I believe- That money is a lousy way of keeping score.
I believe- That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the
ones to help you get back up.
I believe- That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give
me the right to be cruel.
I believe- That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what
you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.
I believe- That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to
forgive yourself.
I believe- That no matter how bad your heart is broken, the world doesn't stop for your grief.
I believe- That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are
responsible for who we become.
I believe- Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.
I believe- That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.
I believe- That even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you-
you will find the strength to help.
I believe- That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.
I believe- That the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

Ponderisms

Ran across these. Thought you might enjoy them.

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'.. But it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?
Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried
in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.

Why is 'bra' singular and 'panties' plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?
If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME stuff, why didn't he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Crossing Over The Line

What holds some individuals from crossing over to following Christ? There may be many reasons but for me I believe it was fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of not being in control or the fear of change.

For me it was never a question of believing. I hear it everyday from people. They believe but go about with their lives not really concerning themselves that believing is not enough. I look at these individuals and realize that that was me not so long ago. I believed but I was not doing God's will with my life.

It took God's hand on my shoulder and firmly bringing me to my knees and gently breaking me before I realized that I needed Him and had to do things His way. I thought for so long that I could handle things all on my own. I thought I knew what was best for me but I can not tell you the freedom one receives once you repent and surrender yourself to him. There is never a day in any man's life but that he is dependent upon the grace of God for power and the blood of Jesus for cleansing.

I know my friends have noticed the change in me. Some of them are comfortable with it and ask questions and many have begun to attend church again and others I sense are uncomfortable with the change. However, I use every opportunity to discuss Christ with them no matter what. I just hope that those individuals that are like I once was will have the courage to step over the fear and take the chance they will never regret.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:23-24

Fresh Drink of Water

Two weeks ago I was yet sitting in on our churches youth group as the youth pastor, JB, was discussing an exercise to the kids. This exercise required for our youth to make a FRAN. A FRAN is a diagram in which the kids draw their own house in the middle of a piece of paper. Surrounding the house they were to write the 4 letters F-for friends, R-for relatives, A- for acquaintance and N-for neighbor. They were then to write names of people who fit under each category who they think do not know Jesus. I also participated in this exercise. After youth was over, my son and I discussed our list. It was funny that we had similar names on those list. Some we knew would be easier to reach than others. We decided on one individual that night that we wanted to try to start reaching. This individual was one of my son's classmates.

We have only know this particular boy for over a year. He has had some difficult times at school and at home. He has been labeled by some as a problem kid. However, for some reason when I look at this young man I see such potential and goodness in him. I just think life has dealt him some bad hands and that he just needs guidance and for someone to respect him as a person not label him in a negative way. When my son and I discussed him we both agreed if anyone needs Jesus, it is this kid. We set out at how we could get him to Jesus.

We invited him to the Wed. night youth group this week. He excitedly agreed and we were able to get his parents to agree also. I knew that he was a little nervous but before I knew it he was talking and joking with other kids and seemed to be at ease. As our youth pastor began this weeks lesson I began to watch this young man as he listened. He sat there wide-eyed and seemed to be listening intently. Watching him from across the room, I could sense the joy and excitement in him. It was like a fresh drink of water for me. On the drive to take him home, he voiced how much he liked coming and plans were made for him to continue to come with us every Wed. I pray that God spoke to him and will continue to bring him into the light.

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."John 8:12

Radio Ministry

A large part of our family life is the alternative christian music we have discovered. Air 1 radio station has become as much as part of our lives as breathing. Some people will argue that what you watch and what you hear do not effect you and I used to believe that myself. However, I am here to tell you it does make a difference.
I have always been a classic rock person and my husband has always, always has been outlaw country. When I first discovered this station he would grumble about listening to it. Then unknown to me he began listening to it at work. He told me he had become less stressed and he no longer had the road rage he had before. I know it sounds crazy but this radio ministry has changed our lives. We have 2 local stations here in Lubbock, 94.1 and 107.3. To see if there is a broadcast near you go to http://www.air1.com/ and click on stations. They are all over the US. You can also listen to the broadcast via your computer. Give a try, you might be surprised how it can touch your life.
